Stumping for 2020 Democrat Michael Bloomberg, actor Michael Douglas told the candidate’s supporters that his father’s dying words included an endorsement of the former New York City mayor for president.
“I don’t know if he was pulling my leg or not, but one of the last words that he said in the hospital, when he came and he saw me, asked me to lean over close to him, and I leaned over closely, and he looked at me, and he said, ‘Mike can get it done,’” Douglas claimed at a campaign event in Wisconsin over the weekend. “He has done more as a private citizen and as a mayor than most any congressman or senator [or] elected official.”
His father, Hollywood legend Kirk Douglas, died last week at the age of 103.
The younger Douglas is an outspoken supporter of Bloomberg’s campaign.
“This is a great, great guy,” Michael Douglas said. “This is a rare, rare moment.”
Despite not participating in any Democratic primary debates, Bloomberg has polled around 10%. He swept New Hampshire’s tiny Dixville Notch primary shortly after midnight on Tuesday, winning as a write-in candidate with three votes. Voters in other areas of the state will continue casting their ballots throughout the day.
President Trump insulted Bloomberg’s golf game on Tuesday after deleting a tweet calling him a “TOTAL RACIST” in response to leaked audio showing the Democratic presidential contender defending stop and frisk.
