Sebastian Gorka: Trump has ‘demonstrated an admirable hands-off approach’ to Russia investigation

Former White House aide Sebastian Gorka said Tuesday the “days of the Mueller investigation’s longevity are short” and argued that his former boss has not interfered in the Russia inquiry.

“The whole thing should collapse, which it is doing. We have 435 days in investigation. We’ve had not one charge brought that connects the Trump campaign to Russia,” Gorka told C-SPAN’s “Washington Journal” program. “So I hope it ends before the midterms because then you would see a judicial process occurring very close to a political one.”

Gorka argued his former boss has “demonstrated an admirable hands-off approach” to the Russia inquiry led by special counsel Robert Mueller.

The host challenged him, saying Trump has regularly tweeted condemnation of Mueller and others involved in the federal investigation.

“He tweets of course, but he does not reach in and say ‘I am going to shut this down’ or ‘I don’t like what’s happening,'” Gorka said. “And that’s admirable. I’ve always said that he should not.”

“You said that he does not try to reach and by the tweets, they are meant to sway public opinion, you agree?” the host asked.

“Yes. That is one of his capacities — is communicating through social media,” Gorka replied.

Trump has tweeted on several occasions declaring his disapproval of the investigation — calling it a “witch hunt” — and has pressured Attorney General Jeff Sessions, who recused himself from the Russia inquiry, to shut down Mueller’s operation.
