Major League Baseball game to be played at Field of Dreams location

A 2020 regular season Major League Baseball game is scheduled to be played at the Iowa field made famous by Field of Dreams.

The game between the New York Yankees and the Chicago White Sox will be played on Aug. 13 next season at the Dyersville, Iowa baseball field that was featured in the 1990 film starring Kevin Costner. Field of Dreams, which was widely popular and is considered by many to be a classic baseball movie, tells the story of a farmer who built a baseball field as a way to connect with his deceased father, who was a baseball player.

Field of Dreams is an iconic, generational baseball story built upon a deep love of the game that transcends even the most impossible of circumstances,” said White Sox chairman Jerry Reinsdorf. “The filmmakers tell a beautiful story that resonates to this day. It is an incredible honor for the White Sox franchise to be the home team against the Yankees in a special setting that will capture everyone’s imagination just like the movie does.”

The game will serve as a commemoration of the film’s 30-year anniversary. MLB is constructing 8,000 seats around the field to accommodate as many fans as possible. The field has been a tourist attraction for many years that hosts small games and tournaments, as well as charity events that benefit young athletes.

The game will be considered a home game for the White Sox, who will continue the series against the Yankees in Chicago after the Iowa game.

“The Yankees organization is proud to participate in such a unique celebration of baseball,” managing general partner of the Yankees, Hal Steinbrenner said. “Field of Dream’s captures the pure essence of baseball, and it continues to bring generations of fans — and families — together to embrace its timeless roots.”
