The haute couture crowd got a dose of D.C. at Monday night’s Met Gala when Mitt and Ann Romney and Huma Abedin mingled with Hollywood and fashion’s most elite.

The theme of this year’s gala was “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination.” While Katy Perry sprouted feathered angel wings and Rihanna turned heads as a glittering pope — complete with a bedazzled bishop’s hat — the Romneys and Abedin went decidedly lighter on the religious iconography.

Mitt Romney, who is running for U.S. Senate in Utah, said on the red carpet that the New York gala, a charity event that celebrates the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute, is a bit different from the campaign trail.

“There’s no question about that — Ann said hey, this is an opportunity, let’s do this. This is just amazing,” Romney said.

Asked about this year’s “Heavenly Bodies” theme, Romney only indicated his wife and said, “This is the heavenly body right here.”

Abedin, formerly the longtime aide to Hillary Clinton, has been a regular Met Gala attendee for several years.

She once walked the red carpet with her now-estranged husband, Anthony Weiner, who is currently serving a prison sentence for sexting with a minor.

President Trump was previously a fixture at the Met Gala, and the fete is in fact where he proposed to first lady Melania Trump in 2004.

The couple last attended the gala in 2012. First daughter Ivanka Trump has attended in more recent years.
