‘Wake up!’: Protesters bang on DC residents’ doors in election night march

Protesters early Wednesday morning banged on Washington, D.C., residents’ front doors as they marched around the city in demonstration beginning at the White House.

The march, led by members of the activist group the Palm Collective, attracted people involved in the election protests as well as people holding antifa and Black Lives Matter flags. Many participants carried black umbrellas and became hostile whenever anyone attempted to film them.

At many points in the night, protesters shouted at reporters and pushed them away from the crowd. In a notable instance, a masked man flagged down another man who told the Washington Examiner that he was a freelance reporter. The masked man shined a flashlight in the reporter’s eyes and berated him for taking pictures of the crowd.

Later, as the protest moved through residential neighborhoods, multiple protesters banged on people’s doors while others shouted, “Wake up! Wake up!” At one point, several protesters lit the contents of a trash can on fire.

The protest concluded near Meridian Hill Park, a historic activist meeting spot where many racial justice protests have taken place since the death of George Floyd this summer.
