Eric Schneiderman resigned from his post as attorney general of New York on Tuesday after allegations of physical abuse surfaced the previous day. New York State Solicitor General Barbara Underwood took over as acting AG immediately after Schneiderman left.
But false reporting from Liberty Raise suggested that due to Underwood’s fictional gambling problem, Hillary Clinton would be taking the reins as acting AG.
“Initially, Cuomo appointed Barbara Underwood as Acting Attorney General,” Liberty Raise claimed, “but when he [sic] gambling addiction became public he quickly rescinded that appointment and went with someone the Democrat Party can trust: Hillary Rodham Clinton.”
As the state’s Solicitor General, Underwood automatically became the acting AG once Schneiderman left. A new AG is then selected by a joint ballot between New York’s Senate and State Assembly, not by Governor Cuomo. Additionally, there is no evidence of Underwood’s alleged “gambling addiction” and Cuomo did not remove her as acting AG.
The false report ended with an obligatory “God bless America and our troops, Amen!”
Readers of TWS Fact Check should be wary of any reporting coming from Liberty Raise, a site that recently (and incorrectly) claimed George H. W. Bush had passed away and that “Clinton Foundation employees hosted ‘Donkey Show’ in Panama office break room.”
Luckily, the site’s pop-up ads make it nigh impossible to read.
