Billionaire Tom Steyer plans to join the crowded field of 2020 Democratic presidential candidates.
Steyer, 62, said in January he would not run for the White House but has since changed his mind. The liberal activist has told friends that he is not satisfied with the current crop of candidates, the Washington Post reported.
An announcement could come as soon as Tuesday. Heather Hargreaves, a veteran field organizer who worked on former President Barack Obama’s 2008 campaign, is expected to manage Steyer’s campaign. She currently is the executive director of NextGen America, an advocacy group founded by Steyer.

“You never know with Tom until he actually pulls the trigger, but he’s telling a lot of people he works with and trusts that he’s going to do it,” one Democrat familiar with the discussions said. “He wants in.”
Steyer’s Need to Impeach group has pushed for President Trump’s removal from office, holding town halls across the nation. He spent tens of millions in the 2018 midterm elections backing Democrats but has been disappointed that they aren’t moving faster in holding impeachment hearings.
Trump taunted Steyer in March, tweeting that the billionaire does not have the “guts” or the funding to run for president. “He’s all talk!” Trump said.
