Acting Immigration and Customs Enforcement Director Thomas Homan on Thursday lamented that Democrats are demanding that President Trump stop calling MS-13 gang members “animals,” but aren’t demanding that their colleagues stop calling U.S. border patrol officers Nazis.
“I wish they felt as strong about the attacks that these same people make on ICE officers and border patrol agents,” Homan said on Fox News.
“You had a congressman here in New York that stood in front of our building not too long ago and called us the Gestapo, Nazis, war criminals,” he added. That’s a reference to Rep. Yvette Clarke, D-N.Y., who said in January that ICE is the “Gestapo of the United States of America.”
“Does anybody ask for an apology for that?” he asked. “I’ve been called Nazi, I’ve been called racist, where’s the apologies for that?”
“You’re talking about sworn law enforcement officers who took an oath to enforce the laws, and they’re being vilified every day,” Homan added. “I don’t see a defense for them, other than us defending themselves.”
