Trump: Europe a ‘total mess’ due to illegal immigration

President Trump warned Wednesday that the U.S. could end a “total mess” like Europe if it doesn’t reinforce its border with Mexico to keep out illegal aliens.

“For those who want and advocate for illegal immigration, just take a good look at what has happened to Europe over the last 5 years. A total mess! They only wish they had that decision to make over again,” Trump tweeted.

“We are a great Sovereign Nation. We have Strong Borders and will never accept people coming into our Country illegally!” he added in a second tweet.

Trump has turned his focus back to immigration as a migrant caravan comprised of several thousand people heads toward the U.S.-Mexico border. The migrants, who are walking from Honduras, are still more than 1,000 miles away from the Texas border.

Trump declared the caravan a national emergency and threatened to reduce or cut back on aid to countries that failed to stop the caravan from traveling to the U.S. border. The Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday that a second caravan is forming in Guatemala.

Trump has used the European migrant crisis to bolster his argument for a border wall.

“I think it has been very bad, for Europe. … I think what has happened is very tough. It’s a very tough situation — you see the same terror attacks that I do,” Trump said at a news conference with British Prime Minister Theresa May in July.

“I just think it is changing the culture, I think it is a very negative thing for Europe,” he said.
