Harry Reid warns Democrats: ‘The less we talk about impeachment, the better off we are’

Former Democratic Senate leader Harry Reid urged Democrats to stop talking about impeaching President Trump, even if U.S. institutions have been “decimated” under the Republican commander in chief.

Some Democrats have called for Trump to be impeached as special counsel Robert Mueller investigates the Trump campaign’s alleged ties to Russia, though other Democrats say it’s too early to talk about impeaching the president.

“I say to everybody, stop it,” Reid told NBC News. “I’ve been through impeachment, and they’re not pleasant. And the less we talk about impeachment, the better off we are.”

Reid, who left Congress in 2017 after 30 years in the Senate, didn’t hold back his criticism for Republicans, either.

He called Republican lawmakers the “limpest waffle you’ve ever seen,” accusing them of harming the Judiciary and legislative branches of the federal government.

“With the Republicans, I’m not mad, I’m just terribly disappointed in what they’ve done to the institution,” he said. “I believe the federal government has been so harmed, the legislative branch has been decimated, judicial decimated, checks and balances sliding out the door.”
