Fox News anchor Sean Hannity is calling on outgoing Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to step down as the leader of Republicans in the Senate.
“We need new leadership in the U.S. Senate,” Hannity said during his monologue Tuesday night. “You can represent the people of Kentucky. You’re showing, basically right now, that you are the king of the establishment Republicans that frankly have always had, and remain having, contempt for President Trump, but more importantly, the 75 million Americans that voted for him.”

Hannity accused McConnell of having “contempt” for both Trump and his 75 million voters and said that people are looking for someone who will fight for their values rather than “scheme behind closed doors with your buddy Chucky Schumer.”
“Establishment Republicans have no backbone, no principle, no courage, no vision. Too many politicians in D.C. are just far too willing to go along, get along, and protect the swamp,” Hannity continued. “And that is why conservatives, like myself, well, we’re tired of these empty promises, and your rehearsed speeches, and never getting anything done.”
Democrats will take control of the Senate Wednesday via a tiebreaking vote from incoming Vice President Kamala Harris, making McConnell the Senate Minority Leader. The Kentucky Republican met with Sen. Chuck Schumer this week to discuss a power-sharing agreement.
During a floor speech on Tuesday, McConnell pinned blame on Trump for the Capitol Hill riot that left several people dead, and he is reportedly considering voting to convict Trump in the Senate’s impeachment trial.
