Trump thanks California Gov. Jerry Brown for sending National Guardsmen to southern border

President Trump thanked California’s Democratic Gov. Jerry Brown on Thursday for agreeing to send more National Guard troops to help secure its border with Mexico.

“California Governor Jerry Brown is doing the right thing and sending the National Guard to the Border. Thank you Jerry, good move for the safety of our Country!”

Brown agreed to join Texas, Arizona, and New Mexico in sending troops to the border, and said some would be sent to the coast and others would work in the interior of the state to support the border mission.

However, Brown said that even though he was deploying the National Guard, they would not be on a mission to build Trump’s border wall nor would they be “enforcing federal laws.”

“It will not be a mission to round up women and children or detain people escaping violence and seeking a better life,” Brown said.

The California governor accepted federal funding in exchange for deploying 400 guardsmen to help with border security and immigration efforts.
