Trey Gowdy: No ‘need’ for a report from John Durham

Former Rep. Trey Gowdy offered a solution to people who are frustrated by the wait for U.S. Attorney John Durham’s report.

Gowdy explained to Fox News host Sean Hannity, who said he is struggling to understand why the federal prosecutor is taking so long, that they “don’t need” the report, at least when it comes to understanding what is at stake in the 2020 election.

“I hope John Durham issues his report, and I hope it’s fair and fact-centric,” the South Carolina Republican said Tuesday evening. “But Sean, we don’t need John Durham to know what’s on the ballot in November. I don’t need John Durham to convince me that the FBI didn’t meet any of our expectations.”

They spoke hours after Attorney General William Barr testified before the House Judiciary Committee and refused to rule out releasing Durham’s report before Election Day, stressing that neither major presidential candidate is under investigation.

Durham, the top federal prosecutor in Connecticut, was appointed by Barr more than a year ago to investigate any misconduct committed by federal law enforcement and intelligence officials during the Russia investigation. His inquiry was upgraded to a criminal investigation last year.

Barr and the Justice Department have said they expect “developments” by summer’s end.
