Car plows through mob of Denver protesters blocking street following Breonna Taylor charging decision

A car in Denver pushed through a mob of protesters blocking a street, hitting at least one woman, as protests flared up over the Breonna Taylor charging decision.

“I was kind of going up on the hood, and I was like, ‘No, I’m not doing this,’ and I rolled over to the side,” the woman who was hit, identified as Kate, told local media. “He wasn’t gonna stop even though I was, like, on his hood.”

“A car hit a protester,” the Denver Post’s Shelly Bradbury tweeted, accompanied by a video of the incident that showed the protesters blocking a street.

Kate said she attended the Denver protest because “they let Breonna Taylor’s murderers off.”

Police have detained the driver.

Kentucky Attorney General David Cameron announced Wednesday an indictment against former detective Brett Hankison for putting Breonna Taylor’s neighbors in danger during the shooting, which left Taylor dead on March 13. However, the two officers involved were not charged.

“While there are six possible homicide charges under Kentucky law, these charges are not applicable to the facts before us because our investigation showed, and the grand jury agreed, that Mattingly and Cosgrove were justified in the return of deadly fire after having been fired upon by Kenneth Walker,” Cameron said during a press conference. “Let me state that again: According to Kentucky law, the use of force by Mattingly and Cosgrove was justified to protect themselves. This justification bars us from pursuing criminal charges in Miss Breonna Taylor’s death.”

Protests erupted in Louisville following the announcement, which led to two local police officers being shot and about 100 protesters arrested on Wednesday evening into Thursday.
