Counselor to the president Kellyanne Conway said CNN White House correspondent Jim Acosta owed an apology to the woman who was in charge of handling the microphone at Wednesday’s White House press conference.
“You don’t put your hands on a woman. I think we all had to hear that recently in some other context and I’m not sure that he’s apologized to that young woman. But she certainly is owed one,” Conway said on Fox Business Network Wednesday night.
During a press conference at the White House, where President Trump took questions from reporters following Tuesday’s midterm elections, Acosta got into a back-and-forth with the president.
When Trump said he wouldn’t answer any more of Acosta’s questions, the woman in charge of making sure the microphone got to the next reporter went to take the microphone from Acosta, who refused to give it up.
Acosta put his hand down onto the woman’s arm as she attempted to reach over and take the microphone away from him. Acosta later insisted he never touched the White House intern.
Later Wednesday, the White House suspended Acosta’s press pass.
Conway said she was worried for the young woman who was “just there to do her job.”
