A Fox & Friends host said the network did not commit to hosting weekly interviews with President Trump even though the president claimed such an agreement was in place.
Trump appeared on the show Tuesday morning for about a 45-minute interview. He noted at the beginning that he’ll be calling into the show every week, presumably through the November election.
“Great to be with my friends, I think we’re going to do this — we’ve agreed to do it once a week in the morning, and I look forward to it. Like the old days,” the president said, to which co-host Steve Doocy said he hadn’t “heard that.”
Trump added, “That’s when you have great people working for you, you don’t have to even get involved. You have the best people, and you do, actually.”
The topic of the weekly interviews came back up at the end of the phone call when fellow co-host Brian Kilmeade said they “are going to do it every week.”
The president said he was looking “forward to it,” but Doocy then explained that this was not a settled arrangement.
“Mr. President, thank you very much. You may want to do it every week, but Fox is not committed to that, we’re going to take it on a case-by-case basis, and Joe Biden as well, is always welcome to join us for 47 minutes like we just did with the president,” he said.
Fox News did not expand on Doocy’s comments when the Washington Examiner reached out.
