The View hosts defend Iran president’s ‘mental retardation’ comments

The View hosts Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar defended comments by Iranian President Hassan Rouhani saying President Trump is “afflicted by mental retardation.”

After Sunny Hostin said that she disagreed with a foreign leader saying that the president of the United States is mentally ill, Goldberg cut in to disagree.

“Why? We say it. Everybody says it,” said Goldberg, while Behar agreed.

Meghan McCain objected to Goldberg and Behar’s position, saying Iran had no place to criticize Trump when they throw people off buildings for being gay and throw women in the streets for wearing tank tops.

“How dare you judge what we do in our country,” McCain said to the Iranian leader.

“Let us not forget what is happening to gay people in this country,” Goldberg responded.

McCain pointed out that gay people are not executed by the U.S. government.

“Not yet, not yet. You think this is not something that’s being thrown around? Yeah it is,” Goldberg said.

The comments come as Rouhani criticized Trump for putting sanctions on Iran.

“You sanction the foreign minister simultaneously with a request for talks,” Rouhani said. “The White House is afflicted by mental retardation and does not know what to do.”

A Foreign Ministry spokesperson said there is a “permanent closure” for diplomacy between the U.S. and Iran.
