Kayleigh McEnany: Bolton takes ‘most disliked man in America’ title from Comey

Move over James Comey.

White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany says former national security adviser John Bolton took the mantle from the former FBI director and became the most disliked man in the United States due to his turn against President Trump.

“John Bolton has discredited himself,” McEnany told Fox and Friends. “He is a misguided hawk on foreign policy and a weak dove of an author. This man is someone who praised President Trump as being strong on foreign policy, not making the mistakes of previous administrations. Perfectly prepared. These are all quotes from John Bolton.”

She was referring to Bolton’s tell-all book, The Room Where It Happened, which the Trump administration is trying to block from release even as excerpts leak to the media.

“He said President Trump understands President Ronald Reagan’s peace through strength. He’s on the record saying this, so John Bolton’s book is debunked by none other than John Bolton. He’s discredited on both sides of the aisle,” she added.

Bolton’s book was obtained by several news outlets, including the Washington Examiner. In the book, Bolton accuses Trump of trying to solicit help from China in his 2020 reelection bid. He also claimed that Trump was unfit for office in an interview with ABC News.

McEnany compared Bolton to Comey, who was fired by Trump in May 2017. Comey orchestrated the leak of memos he wrote about his conversations with Trump, which he acknowledged was an effort to get a special prosecutor appointed to take up the Russia investigation, and he released a book, A Higher Loyalty, in 2018 which cast a negative light on the Trump presidency.

“If you thought Comey was the most disliked man in America, I think John Bolton has now taken that title,” McEnany said.

The Justice Department filed a lawsuit against Bolton on Tuesday, asking a judge to stop its release, set for June 23, because it contains classified material. The Trump administration filed for a temporary restraining order to block the release of the book.
