Beto O’Rourke weighed in on his performance during the first Democratic presidential debate, giving himself an “A” grade.
Speaking on CNN Thursday morning, the former Texas congressman was asked to give himself a grade. He initially spoke in broad strokes about how he did, bringing up his unsuccessful run against Republican Sen. Ted Cruz in 2018.
“I was really happy with how I did,” O’Rourke said. “I talked about my daughter Molly, who just turned 11 years old, and the fact that she’s counting on us, that children all across this country are counting on us, and that there are children who, right now, do not have representation or a voice, including those sleeping on concrete floors under tinfoil blankets who have been separated from their families.”
Host Alisyn Camerota pushed O’Rourke to give an actual letter grade, and he responded, “I’d give myself an ‘A.’”
“I described why I’m doing this, who I’m doing it for, the people that inspire me, and how we’re going to meet these challenges, and I felt like I was able to get that across,” O’Rourke added.
