WATCH: Police struggle to get residents to cooperate as they try to rescue fatally wounded officer

As Sacramento police were cording off part of neighborhood after a shootout that left one officer dead, they were given a hard time by some bystanders as they were trying to control the scene.

Video taken by the bystanders show officers telling them to move back so they can establish a perimeter, with the civilians heckling the officers.

“The only person we need to be safe from is you,” one woman said to an officer.

“Take that gun off. I’ll whoop your little butt,” the same woman shouted. “All y’all cowards.”

The officer killed on Wednesday was Tara O’Sullivan.

O’Sullivan and other officers were responding to a domestic disturbance call when a suspect used a rifle to shoot at them at 6:10 p.m. Around 6:54 p.m., more officers arrived with an armored vehicle to rescue O’Sullivan. She was retrieved and taken to a hospital a few minutes later.

“We are devastated. There are no words to convey the depth of the sadness we feel, or how heartbroken we are for the family of our young, brave officer,” the Sacramento Police Department said. “The men & women of our police department will continue to do our jobs to protect our community, [and] we will draw strength from the courage of Tara.”
