The sister of Charleston church shooter Dylann Roof was arrested Wednesday after she brought a weapon and drugs to A.C. Flora High School in South Carolina.
Morgan Roof was arrested after a school resource officer was notified that the 18-year-old student was carrying marijuana, pepper spray, and a knife on the school premises, CNN reported.
Roof had also made a post to social media site Snapchat expressing anger at National School Walkout on Wednesday, where students protested gun violence and remembered the 17 lives lost in the Parkland, Fl. school shooting last month.
Authorities say no students were harmed at the school.
Roof has been charged with one count of marijuana possession and two counts of carrying a weapon on school grounds.
A judge set a $5,000 bond for Roof on the condition that she would not return to school.
South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster, a Republican, said a “potential tragedy was avoided” Wednesday thanks to the students and educators who reported “suspicious activity” to a school resource officer.
“We owe a debt of gratitude to all involved who acted so quickly and decisively,” McMaster said in a statement on Twitter.
Potential tragedy was avoided at AC Flora High School. In two separate incidents, students and educators reacted quickly to reports of suspicious activity and behavior to their Richland County Sheriff’s Department school resource officer. (1/)
