Trump quotes Alan Dershowitz saying he’s ‘still opposed’ to naming Robert Mueller as special counsel

President Trump tweeted a quote Wednesday morning from Harvard Law professor Alan Dershowitz, who said he was opposed to the selection of special counsel Robert Mueller and claimed there were no crimes to be found in the Russian probe.

“‘Special Council is told to find crimes, whether a crime exist or not. I was opposed the the selection of Mueller to be Special Council, I still am opposed to it. I think President Trump was right when he said there never should have been a Special Council appointed because there was no probable cause for believing that there was any crime, collusion or otherwise, or obstruction of justice!’ So stated by Harvard Law Professor Alan Dershowitz,” Trump posted in two consecutive tweets.

Dershowitz made his comments to anchor Lou Dobbs on Fox Business Tuesday night.

In a Wednesday op-ed in The Hill, Dershowitz said a more reasonable alternative to a special counsel would be to appoint a nonpartisan investigative commission to conduct a broad investigation into Russian involvement in U.S. elections.

“This is what other democracies, such as Great Britain and Israel, do in response to systemic problems,” Dershowitz said. “The virtue of such a commission is precisely the nonpartisan credibility of its objective experts, who have no political stake in the outcome.”

Over the weekend, Trump attacked the special counsel and the validity of the investigation into Russian collusion through a string of tweets, mentioning Mueller by name for the first time since the probe began.

Reports said Trump was more likely to attack Mueller head on, and by name, on Twitter.
