The Hillary-Weiner Connection

The mystery of the “unrelated investigation”—by which the FBI director James Comey says the Bureau came across new emails-of-interest involving Hillary Clinton—didn’t last long. The New York Times is among sites reporting that the FBI found the emails in question on devices belonging to disgraced former congressman Anthony Weiner, husband of Hillary’s Girl Friday, Huma Abedin.

Busted once before for sexting women not his wife, Weiner appears to have been up to his old tricks when, in September, news broke that he had been sending lewd texts to an underage girl. As part of that investigation, prosecutors subpoenaed Weiner’s cellphone and other electronic devices.

That investigation may be “unrelated” but it touches directly on Abedin, who is likely to have had plenty of email and text communication with Weiner covering the entirety of her time working for Clinton at the State Department. This may suggest that Abedin is currently the most at-risk of the Clinton confidantes. Given how strict classification rules are when enforced aggressively, and given how much unguarded information Huma may have shared with her husband, Abedin could be in serious jeopardy.

There’s every reason to believe that Weiner’s phone is a more damning trove of documents than anything that has yet come from WikiLeaks—and without any of the poisoned-fruit-of-the-KGB narrative to hide behind.
