Trump touts accomplishments of North, South Korea summit

President Trump praised the outcome of talks between North and South Korea early Wednesday, shortly after news broke that North Korea has agreed to permanently dismantle a nuclear test site and launch pad.

“Kim Jong Un has agreed to allow Nuclear inspections, subject to final negotiations, and to permanently dismantle a test site and launch pad in the presence of international experts. In the meantime there will be no Rocket or Nuclear testing,” Trump posted to Twitter in the first minutes of Wednesday morning.

Trump touted some of the other developments from the talks between North Korea and South Korea.

“Hero remains to continue being returned home to the United States. Also, North and South Korea will file a joint bid to host the 2032 Olympics. Very exciting!” Trump tweeted.

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and South Korean President Moon Jae-in are engaging in a summit in Pyongyang this week, and the two signed a joint statement Wednesday.

In the statement, according to the Associated Press, Kim said the North would be willing to have experts watch the permanent dismantling of a nuclear test site and launch pad.

In the statement, the two nations also said they would come together for major sports events, like launching a bid to jointly host the 2032 Summer Olympics and competing together in the 2020 Summer Olympics.

Kim also sent home the purported remains of U.S. soldiers from the Korean War that were previously being held captive as a sign of good faith in ongoing denuclearization talks between the U.S. and North Korea.
