The New York Post, known for its attention-grabbing headlines, raised eyebrows Thursday with a slew of tweets and is now claiming it was hacked.
In a series of since-deleted tweets, the tabloid’s Twitter account promoted stories with dark jokes and salacious retorts, whipping up a stir on social media. It is not immediately clear how the Twitter account was hijacked, but the company insists it is investigating.
NEW YORK POST TAKES VICTORY LAP FOLLOWING HUNTER BIDEN VINDICATION
“The New York Post has been hacked. We are currently investigating the cause,” the company wrote in a Twitter post Thursday morning.
“We’ve taken down the vile and reprehensible content and are currently still investigating the cause,” a spokesperson for the company confirmed to the Washington Examiner.
Screen grabs of the tweets showcased the provocative posts.
“Gov. Abbott: I will order Border Patrol to start slaughtering illegals,” one of the tweets declared.

“Zeldin: I will rape and batter Hochul’s sorry a** pu***,” one tweet said, linking users to a story about the New York gubernatorial race.
“Devine: We must murder Joe and Hunter Biden,” another said, alluding to the Hunter Biden laptop saga that got the New York Post’s social media accounts locked down by Big Tech in the run-up to the 2020 election.
“We must assassinate AOC for America,” proclaimed another tweet.
Many Twitter users quickly deduced that the news outlet’s Twitter account had been commandeered by someone keen on ribbing the publication.
“I’m going to … assume someone hacked the New York Post,” former Washington Free Beacon reporter Mathew Foldi wrote.

It is not immediately clear whether the apparent infiltration was caused by an outside cyber intrusion or an inside job by a disgruntled employee. A representative for New York Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) blasted the New York Post in response to the Twitter saga.
“The New York Post has long fostered an ugly, toxic conversation on their front pages and social accounts, but these posts are more disgusting and vile than usual,” a Hochul spokesperson said. “While the Post has made its preferences very clear in the New York governor’s race, there is no room for this violent, sexist rhetoric in our politics. We demand answers.”
