Sen. Tim Kaine, D-Va., said members of the Trump administration have “glass jaws” and are “crybabies” when they’re criticized, following the White House’s response to comments made at the G-7 summit.
“The Trump administration is filled with people with glass jaws who they love to punch people, but if somebody punches back? They just can’t believe it. They’re crybabies,” Kaine told the Washington Post’s “Cape UP” podcast in an interview published Tuesday. “President Trump can name-call everybody all day long. And somebody gets in his face a little bit and they melt into a pool of lukewarm water.”
Kaine, the 2016 Democratic vice presidential nominee, was asked about the recent tensions between the White House and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, which escalated after last week’s G-7 summit in Quebec.
Trump accused Trudeau of being “meek and mild” during G-7 meetings and said he was “very dishonest and weak” after the Canadian prime minister threatened retaliatory tariffs in response to the steel and aluminum tariffs the Trump administration imposed on Canada.
Others in the administration, including Peter Navarro, a top trade adviser to the president, and Larry Kudlow, Trump’s chief economic adviser, piled on with attacks on Trudeau.
During an interview with “Fox News Sunday,” Navarro said there is a “special place in hell” for Trudeau, and Kudlow told CNN the prime minister “stabbed us in the back.”
Navarro said Tuesday his statement about Trudeau was “inappropriate” and a “mistake.”
But Kaine said “the scuffle over the weekend shows how weak the administration is.”
