Eight hurt in Colorado stabbing spree

Eight people were wounded when a man stabbed people at multiple locations in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Police first received a call about the string of attacks around 1:30 a.m. local time on Monday. When authorities arrived, they found two people with stab wounds, followed by others who were stabbed on walking trails in a park.

“The two victims stated that they were attacked and then [the suspect] ran off down the trail,” Colorado Springs Police Department Sgt. Shawn Peterson told KKTV.

Police later received a call from about 1.5 miles away from the first attack, reporting more victims. Some of those people managed to detain the suspect, whose name has not been released, allowing officers to arrest him.

“Everywhere he was going, he was trying to come in contact with people, and he was injuring them,” Peterson said.

In a report filed after the attacks, police said the stabbings “appeared to be random” and that the suspect did not have a known relationship with the victims.

“I’d really like to thank all the public for assisting us in help catching him, along with medical and FD. Their quick response really helped these victims and also helped police try to locate the suspect,” Peterson said.
