SEE IT: Scientists glue themselves to the floor of a Volkswagen exhibit hall

Warning of a “climate emergency,” a group of German scientists have glued themselves to the floor of an exhibit hall next to the Volkswagen factory in Wolfsburg, Germany.

One of the scientists, Gianluca Grimalda, tweeted that he, along with other members of the Scientist Rebellion, is demanding that the German Transportation sector work to stop all carbon dioxide emissions.

“I’m here in the Porsche Pavilion in the Autostadt of Wolfsburg to denounce the responsibility of Volkswagen in the climate emergency that we are facing,” Grimalda said. “The transport sector has a huge responsibility in the climate emergency.”

Grimalda said the transportation sector contributes 12% of carbon dioxide emissions, resulting in rising temperatures causing famines, droughts, and floods.

In sharing several photos of the protest, Grimalda noted that Volkswagen told his group that it supported the scientists’ right to be there but would not provide any aid in the process.

“[Volkswagen] told us that they supported our right to protest, but they refused our request to provide us with a bowl to urinate and defecate in a decent manner while we are glued, and have turned off the heating,” Grimalda wrote.

Other scientists gathered outside the pavilion in support of the protests.
