Like ‘commentary on a video game’: Kamala Harris rips Trump press conference on Baghdadi

Sen. Kamala Harris took aim at President Trump’s Sunday press conference announcing the death of Islamic State leader Abu Bakr al Baghdadi at the hands of U.S. special operations forces.

“Donald Trump, that press conference was extraordinary. You would’ve think that he was talking about watching and giving commentary on a video game,” the California Democrat told Seth Meyer on NBC’s Late Night on Monday. “He is the commander in chief. The commander in chief of the United States of America has as her highest priority the responsibility to concern herself.”

Both Meyers and Harris paused and started chuckling after she used the pronoun “her” to describe the president.

Meyers, 45, said before Harris’s attack on Trump that he thought the death of Baghdadi was the most appropriate time to celebrate the death of a person.

“If there is ever a time to celebrate the death of anyone, someone like al Baghdadi would be that,” he said.

Trump described Baghdadi’s death as a man who went out “whimpering and crying and screaming.” He also detailed “blasting” and gunfire during the raid.

Harris has been a leading critic of the president’s rhetoric during her 2020 presidential campaign, even calling for Trump to be kicked off Twitter. She is currently polling around 5% in the Democratic primary, according to RealClearPolitics.
