The queen won’t be “jubblant” about this one.
An English wholesale supplier is seeking to sell 10,800 cups, plates, and cup-and-saucer sets containing misprints ahead of Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee on Sunday. The listing for the dishes states there is a “slight typo” in which the supplier spelled the word “jubilee” as “jubbly,” an incident the Chinese manufacturer Changzhouint Merchandise called an error in translation.

“On arrival at Southampton docks a few weeks ago, upon inspection, it became apparent that there was a slight printing/translation error which now leaves these without a home,” Wholesale Clearance UK, the company that ordered the dishes, said in a press release shared with Business Insider.

Wholesale Clearance UK’s Managing Director Karl Baxter said the misprinted pieces are collectible.
“Previous royal occasion memorabilia are often sought after by collectors, as they’re a great excuse to go out and buy a piece of history which will increase in value over time,” Baxter told the outlet. “Besides, what could be more unique than our limited-edition misprinted crockery?”
The dishes are all being sold together in a joint lot, costing roughly $52,660 in U.S. currency after sales taxes. The recommended retail value was $438,671 before the typo.
Changzhouint Merchandise is also selling individual misprinted cup-and-saucer sets on its website for $34 per set, reduced from $41.
Another major error occurred for Wholesale Clearance during the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. A “tragically inaccurate” phrasebook featured sexual advice, offensive hand gestures, and mistranslated phrases. An upside-down Brazilian flag was also included in the book, and the cover featured a misspelling of “Brazilian.”
