Trump revels in World Cup win: ‘We never fail’

President Trump on Friday basked in the glow of FIFA’s decision to let the U.S., Canada, and Mexico host the 2026 World Cup, and said he and his team worked hard to bring the games to North America.

“Thank you for all of the compliments on getting the World Cup to come to the U.S.A., Mexico and Canada. I worked hard on this, along with a Great Team of talented people. We never fail, and it will be a great World Cup! A special thanks to Bob Kraft for excellent advice,” the president wrote.

FIFA announced earlier this week that the quadrennial event would be coming to the U.S. as part of the three-country bid with Mexico and Canada. A majority of the matches, including the final, will be held in the U.S.

Trump was credited with sending three letters to FIFA that said players from around the world would not be affected by the tighter immigration rules he’s trying to impose,

The U.S. last hosted the World Cup in 1994. The U.S. men’s team did not qualify for the 2018 World Cup in Russia, but could possibly be guaranteed a spot, along with the other two host countries, in the 2026 tournament.
