GOP ‘juggernaut’ raises more than $86M in February

The Republican “juggernaut” raised more than $86 million dollars during the month of February.

The figure, announced Monday, covers money raised by President Trump’s reelection campaign, the Republican National Committee, and joint fundraising committees.

“Our record breaking fundraising success month after month speaks to the incredible enthusiasm we’re seeing for President Trump, and is fueling the greatest ground operations and grassroots army in history,” RNC chairwoman Ronna McDaniel said in a statement Monday morning. “The contrast in 2020 couldn’t be clearer — a continued American boon under President Trump, or a complete government takeover of our lives under any of these 2020 socialist candidates.”

The average breaks down to a little less than $3 million per day in February, which was 29 days due to the leap year. The strong fundraising numbers dwarf the $60 million raised in January.

Republicans have $225 million cash on hand after raising $600 million since last year, according to the GOP, which also said they had their biggest month for digital fundraising since 2016.

“President Trump continues to build momentum as people keep responding to his success on behalf of all Americans. With this unprecedented support, the President and the RNC are assembling an unstoppable juggernaut focused like a laser on November,” Trump campaign manager Brad Parscale said.

Fundraising among candidates for the Democratic presidential nomination was also high.

Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont raised $46.5 million in February, a total that dwarfed his January fundraising total of $25 million.

“We’re especially proud that of the more than 2 million donations we received this month, over 1.4 million were from voters in states that vote on Super Tuesday,” Sanders’s campaign manager Faiz Shakir wrote in a statement regarding the February numbers. The independent senator has raised more than $167 million from more than 8.5 million individual donors.

Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren, another liberal candidate for president, raised $29 million in February, brought in $10.4 million in January. Former Vice President Joe Biden, who won the South Carolina primary over the weekend, raised $18 million.

Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, a billionaire, is self-funding his campaign and has spent more than half a billion dollars as he fights to be competitive on Super Tuesday.
