The View co-hosts praise Harris for not answering court-packing questions

Three of the four co-hosts of The View praised Democratic vice presidential nominee Kamala Harris for refusing to answer whether she and Joe Biden think the Supreme Court should be expanded during Wednesday night’s debate.

Co-host Sara Haines broached the topic on the show Thursday morning.

“The one dodge that did bother me on Kamala and Biden’s side was court-packing cause it won’t sway my vote, but I’m interested in hearing an answer and they know that’s coming, so I would like to hear something else,” she said.

The other hosts, however, disagreed. Whoopi Goldberg argued that the California senator made the right choice in not answering the question and explained her support by pointing to the current administration.

“I have to tell you, I am very happy that she did not answer some of those questions because, you know, I’ve watched for four years. I’ve watched them dodge and not answer stuff,” she stated. “Why would she tell them anything about what she and Joe plan to do or what they’ve discussed or how they’ve discussed it? It only gives them more fodder.”

Joy Behar quickly agreed saying, “That’s a hypothetical question. There’s no reason why she has to answer a hypothetical question.”

Despite the pushback, Haines maintained her stance.

“I think after all this time though, they’re smart. They could answer it differently than dodging because I think that, it just, I want to hear something,” she said. “Because it matters just as much as people are talking about the Supreme Court on the other side and wanting to sway it.”

The fourth co-host, Sunny Hostin, backed Behar and Goldberg saying that Harris dodging the question wasn’t a big deal.

“The real question is why are the Republicans trying to push through — push through a nominee with less than 30 days before the election, and that’s something that even Abraham Lincoln didn’t do, and that’s something that Kamala pointed out,” she said, referencing a controversial comment from the debate. “I mean, that’s the real question that needs to be answered rather than a hypothetical question about court-packing in their response to what the Republicans are planning to do, right?”

Biden and Harris have repeatedly refused to answer on whether they are in favor of adding seats to the Supreme Court. The topic was thrust into the spotlight last month following the death of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, and the president subsequently appointed Judge Amy Coney Barrett to fill her vacancy. The Senate Republicans believe they will be able to confirm her before Election Day.
