Trump on US response to Iran: ‘You’ll find out’

President Trump did not reveal how he plans to respond after Iran shot down a U.S. drone.

Trump fielded questions over Iran while hosting Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau at the White House on Thursday. Reporters peppered Trump with questions on how the United States would respond to Iranian aggression in the Strait of Hormuz, a key commercial shipping lane.

“You’ll find out,” Trump said.

Trump went on to call the move by Iran “loose and stupid” without directly placing blame on Iranian leaders.

“Iran made a big mistake. This drone was in international waters, clearly, we have it all documented,” Trump said. “I would imagine it was a general or somebody who made a mistake in shooting that drone down … I have a feeling that it was a mistake made by somebody who shouldn’t have been doing what they did.”

“Somebody under the command of that country made a mistake,” Trump said.

Iran shot down a U.S. drone over international waters in the Strait of Hormuz on Thursday, escalating tensions with the U.S. after allegedly planting bombs on Japanese oil tankers. Iran disputes U.S. and Saudi Arabian accusations that it attacked the Japanese vessels and says it shot down the U.S. drone after it drifted into Iranian airspace.
