Congressional leaders ‘finalizing’ $1.2 trillion spending deal

A deal has been largely negotiated on a $1.2 trillion fiscal 2018 spending package that would include President Trump’s request for border security funding, exclude Obamacare funding, and does not address so-called “Dreamers” who are living in the United States under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program.

“We are finalizing it and we hope to post soon,” House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., said after a leadership meeting early Wednesday. “We’re in a good place.”

Democrats say there are some provisions to go over with their rank and file, but said they are pleased with the results of the negotiations.

“We feel very good about this,” Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., said after a meeting between the top four bipartisan leaders in the House and Senate early Wednesday.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said the two parties “have a few language points that need to clear up,” but said “I think we are going to present to our Members something they can comfortably support.”
