Dan Crenshaw explains why ‘socialism doesn’t work’ in one minute

Texas Rep. Dan Crenshaw posted a video online explaining “why socialism doesn’t work” as conservatives gathered for the annual Conservative Political Action Conference with a theme this year of “America vs. Socialism.”

“Socialism doesn’t work because it removes human incentive,” Crenshaw argued in the one-minute video. Crenshaw also said socialism infringes on freedoms, takes wages, and establishes government control.

The first-term congressman and military veteran also reminded conservatives that President Ronald Reagan went toe-to-toe with the Soviet Union “to end the scourge of socialism.”

Crenshaw’s video, which received over 7,500 retweets and over 20,000 likes as of midday Thursday, comes as conservatives from across the country are congregating at CPAC with socialism on their minds. Sen. Bernie Sanders, a socialist who is the front-runner in the race for the Democratic presidential nomination, is expected to be a popular topic of conversation.

Sanders recently received criticism from both Democrats and Republicans for defending aspects of Fidel Castro’s communist regime during an interview with 60 Minutes.

“We’re very opposed to the authoritarian nature of Cuba, but it’s unfair to say everything’s bad. When Castro came into office, you know what he did? He had a literacy program,” he said.

Rather than apologizing, Sanders stuck to his comments later in the week.

“He formed the literacy brigade. You may read that. He went out, and they helped people learn to read and write. You know what? I think teaching people to read and write is a good thing,” he added.

CPAC is underway in National Harbor, Maryland, and will last until Saturday, when President Trump will close out the event with the keynote speech scheduled at 3 p.m. EST.
