Supporters of President Trump sounded the alarm on his potential removal from office, saying they would fight back in his defense.
“My .357 Magnum is comfortable with that. End of story,” one Trump supporter told CBS News in video taken at the president’s Tuesday rally in Hershey, Pennsylvania.
His remark was in response to whether he was sure Trump would not be kicked out of the Oval Office. A second man, identified as Infowars host Will Johnson, said he believed removing Trump from office could lead to another Civil War.
“I think it would cause physical violence in this country that we haven’t seen since the first Civil War. I think it would become the second Civil War,” Johnson said.
A third man predicted a “strong movement” and “possible violence” if the president was removed from office, but said he did not condone any violence.
“There’ll be a lot of mad Americans, possibly 70, 80,000 — 70, 80 million Americans on the loose, not very happy,” he said.
The president blasted Democrats during the Pennsylvania rally over impeachment, saying they were doing it to try and win the 2020 election. His visit to the state came as it will likely play a central role in his reelection campaign.
House Democrats have moved forward with impeachment proceedings, holding debates Wednesday on articles of impeachment. Trump is facing two articles of impeachment, including abuse of power and obstruction of Congress.
It would take a simple House majority vote to impeach the president, but two-thirds of the Senate would need to vote in favor of convicting him. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has said the Republican-held chamber will not remove Trump.
