If President Trump was trying to lose the election, an objective observer might ask, “what would he do differently?” That’s how much of a nightmare this past month has been for him.
On top of the coronavirus pandemic in which there have been over 2.5 million people testing positive for it and 130,000 have died from it, America has descended into chaos as widespread protests, riots, and social unrest have gripped the country following the deaths of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor.
Trump’s handling of the crises has resulted in higher disapproval numbers, and tanking poll numbers against presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden.
As of June 2020, Biden is leading Trump nationally and in every battleground state, which includes Florida, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Arizona. The only battleground state where Biden isn’t leading by more than 3 percentage points is North Carolina.
Interestingly enough, there’s one area that Trump is beating Biden soundly in: the enthusiasm gap.
According to a CNN national survey taken in June 2020, 7 in 10 Trump voters are voting to re-elect the president mainly because they support Trump, and only 27% say they’re voting for Trump because they primarily oppose Biden. Meanwhile, 37% of Biden voters say they intend to elect the former vice president because they support him, and 60% of Biden voters say they want to elect him because they oppose Trump.
That shows you everything you need to know about the 2020 election so far. Biden has been mocked for staying in his basement, outside the public eye. But, you see, Biden is still campaigning… it just so happens that Trump is his biggest surrogate.
Biden doesn’t have to do anything until the debates because America is watching closely how the incumbent is handling the job. And, frankly, a great deal of them are done with the Trump experiment.
