Trump loses Kanye West support: ‘I am taking the red hat off’

Rapper and sneaker mogul Kanye West said he no longer supports President Trump as he plots his own bid for the White House.

I am taking the red hat off, with this interview,” West told Forbes in reference to Trump’s “Make America Great Again” hats.

“It looks like one big mess to me,” he said. “One of the main reasons I wore the red hat as a protest to the segregation of votes in the black community. Also, other than the fact that I like Trump hotels and the saxophones in the lobby.”

West said Saturday he was running for president in the 2020 election, but with Election Day just four months away, he has yet to register with the Federal Election Commission and has missed the deadline to file in many states.

The rapper said he’s “speaking with experts” about how to get on the ballot and floated using the coronavirus pandemic to bolster his efforts.

“I’m going to speak with Jared Kushner, the White House, with [Joe] Biden,” he said.

West is married to reality TV star Kim Kardashian West, who has pushed Trump for criminal justice reform. The rapper said he would run as a Republican if Trump wasn’t on the ticket.

“I would run as a Republican if Trump wasn’t there. I will run as an independent if Trump is there,” he said, adding that he’s “pro-life because I’m following the word of the Bible” and that he supports prayer in schools.
