If Democratic candidates think they need to disavow House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi to win, then they should do it, said Stephanie Schriock, president of Emily’s List.
“We need to win,” Schriock told CNBC Tuesday when asked about Pelosi. “So if you feel like you’re in a district that you need to make those types of positions, you’ve got to do what you’ve got to do to win.”
Emily’s List, a super PAC dedicated to training and electing pro-choice female candidates, is working overtime this midterm. After presidential elections the organization typically downsizes, Schriock said, but with a record number of female candidates running, Emily’s List has expanded.
Schriock said she doesn’t know if any of the current candidates endorsed by the organization have vowed to vote against Pelosi, but she said it wouldn’t bother her if any of them did.
“We’re running women in a whole variety of districts right now across the country — some in suburban, exurban districts, some in rural districts,” she said. “And they need to make the best choices to win those districts. And we’re going to back them up.
“We think she’s been a very, very good leader,” Schriock continued. “But we also know that the Republicans, for good or bad, made a decision to demonize her.”
