The president of the Young Democrats of Maryland, who had gone missing more than a week ago, has been found dead.
The body of Joseph Kitchen, 34, was found on Sunday, a day after the Prince George’s County Police Department announced a search for him, according to NBC4. The cause of his death remains unknown.
Kitchen was last seen in-person on Aug. 8 when he went to Sandy Point State Park in Annapolis. Days later, he participated in a Zoom call with colleagues.
After that, Kitchen’s brother said he was unusually quiet on social media and phone calls went unanswered. His family planned on coming across the country from California to help locate him.
“I am terribly sad to learn of the loss of Joseph Kitchen,” said Rep. Jamie Raskin, a Democrat from Maryland. “This is a brutal time we inhabit and the loss of this wonderful young man will be another dreadful milestone in our age of bitter hardship.”
“I”m stunned,” former Maryland gubernatorial candidate Ben Jealous said. “He was such a good public servant and so young.”
