EDITOR’S NOTE: This article has been corrected to remove the name of a former Secret Service agent who was originally mistakenly identified as being involved in the reported incident.
That individual, who had left the Secret Service prior to May 24, 2018, never met nor assisted Hunter Biden in any capacity.
A former U.S. Secret Service agent went to check on Hunter Biden in 2018, when the future president’s son was holed up in a Los Angeles hotel room. The agent became alarmed about, and frustrated with, Hunter Biden, text messages obtained by the Washington Examiner show.
“As your friend we need to resolve this in the immediate. Call the front desk now H or I will have to assume you are in danger and we will have to make them give us keys,” texted the former agent in the May 24, 2018 incident.
When Biden didn’t appear, the former agent tersely texted: “We’re at your door. Open it.”
Biden told a CBS interviewer that he spent the years before his 2019 marriage “on my hands and knees, picking through rugs, smoking anything that even remotely resembled crack Cocaine. I probably smoked more Parmesan cheese than anyone you know.”
At the time of the hotel incident, Hunter Biden was living in Los Angeles. His father, current President Joe Biden, was the former vice president and neither he nor his son had Secret Service protection. At 6:37 p.m., the following text exchange occurred between Hunter and the former agent, invoking the code name “Celtic,” which was and remains Joe Biden’s Secret Service handle:
Former agent: “H- I’m in the lobby, come down. Thanks…”
Biden: “5 minutes.”
Former agent: “Come on H this is linked to Celtic’s account. DC is calling me every 10. Let me up or come down. I can’t help if you don’t let me. H.”

Biden: “I promise be right down. Sorry.”
Former agent: “Dales here. He a going to front desk call and tell them to give us a key now H. As your friend we need to resolve this in the immediate. Call the front desk now H or I will have to assume you are in danger and we will have to make them give us keys.”
Biden: “Really … I am coming down right now. I really promise. Was in the bathroom buddy. Coming right this second.”
Former agent: “We’re at your door. Open it.”
It’s unclear who sent the former agent or if he was rescuing Biden as a personal friend or in some professional capacity. It’s also not clear how he came to believe Biden was in difficulty in a hotel room. A U.S. Secret Service spokesperson told the Washington Examiner that the Secret Service did not provide any protection to any member of the Biden family in 2018.

The texts were contained in the laptop Hunter Biden allegedly abandoned at a Delaware computer repair shop, which fell into the hands of several allies of former President Donald Trump, including Steve Bannon, Trump’s former chief strategist. The text messages were provided to the Washington Examiner by Jack Maxey, former co-host of Bannon’s War Room podcast.
