Secret Service blocks off streets surrounding White House after protests

Secret Service has closed off the streets surrounding all four sides of the White House following several nights of violent protests.

The streets are likely to remain closed “probably until the riots become peaceful, or stop,” an agent told Axios on Tuesday.

The surrounding area of the White House has been hit hard with protesters gathering over the death of Minneapolis man George Floyd, who died last week in police custody. On Monday, protesters near the White House were aggressively cleared before President Trump visited St. John’s Episcopal Church near Lafayette Park.

The streets closed off include 17th Street between Constitution and H Street Northwest, 15th Street between Constitution and H Street Northwest, and H Street between 15th and 17th Street Northwest.

A fence was also erected overnight near Lafayette Park to keep protesters away from the area.
