Maryland doctor killed by his own car in hit-and-run

A Maryland doctor was killed in a hit-and-run incident after a carjacker allegedly stole his Mercedes and ran him over in Washington, D.C., police officials said.

Dr. Rakesh Patel, a doctor at MedStar Washington Hospital Center and resident of Silver Spring, Maryland, was killed Tuesday after attempting to get his car back from a carjacker who stole his Mercedes, which he left running in the driveway of his girlfriend’s house. Patel, 33, was dropping something off when the couple noticed his car creeping forward and an unidentified person in the driver’s seat, Fox News reported. Patel was found in critical condition on the side of the road after chasing the car.

Washington emergency services attempted to save Patel before transporting him to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, where he was declared dead. Police officials said they believe Patel was hit by the car. Another person was also hit by the car in an intersection moments later. No one has been apprehended.
