The Tokyo Olympics have been rescheduled after the coronavirus pandemic forced the postponement of the 2020 games.
Tokyo organizers said Monday the opening ceremony is now scheduled for July 23, 2021, almost one year after the games were scheduled to begin, and the closing ceremony will be held on Aug. 8, 2021.
This year’s games were set to open on July 24 and close Aug. 9.
The International Olympic Committee announced last week that the games would be rescheduled, making it the first time they have been postponed. The Olympics have been canceled during periods of war.
