Former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon hailed President Trump as the one politician capable of bringing back manufacturing jobs that have been siphoned off to China over the past several decades.
During a Wednesday appearance on Mornings with Maria, Bannon told host Maria Bartiromo that Trump’s administration is ready to turn the screws on the Chinese Communist Party and bring back pharmaceutical and physical manufacturing jobs to U.S. workers.
“American jobs for American workers,” he said. “That’s how we’re gonna get out of this. And I think if you look at Powell on the asset side, you look at Mnuchin on the demand side, you look at President Trump on focusing on jobs, I think you’ve seen them come together, and today’s the opening. People want this done rapidly, they want it done smartly, and they want it done safely. The American people demand that. They want to put politics aside, and I think President Trump’s got the right team, and I think they’re headed in the right direction.”
Republicans such as Sens. Tom Cotton of Arkansas and Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee have voiced criticism regarding the manufacturing threat that China poses: Many of the pharmaceuticals that U.S. citizens rely on are made in the country.
Bartiromo noted that Bannon has been harshly criticized by Chinese media outlets for his beliefs, but the War Room podcast host made a point to draw a contrast between Chinese communist politicians and citizens who he says pose no threat to the United States.
“The Chinese people are some of the greatest people in the world,” he said. “Decent, hardworking. They’re in bondage. They’re in bondage to this totalitarian dictatorship. President Trump has this great saying: ‘No games, no games.’ The games are over with the Chinese Communist Party.”
Bannon ripped members of the U.S. media and traders on Wall Street, who he accused of being complicit in allowing China to dominate the manufacturing industry.
“The Chinese Communist Party’s day has finally arrived, and they’re not going to be able to play any more games,” he said. “All their cheerleaders on Wall Street, all their cheerleaders in the media, all their cheerleaders in global corporations, and the Party of Davos, their day is here: They’re being held accountable for exactly what they’ve done to their own people and what they’ve done to humanity.”
Bannon praised Trump’s work on prioritizing the production of ventilators, noting that the country is now a “net exporter” of the machines that help fight against the coronavirus.
“President Trump’s been a manufacturing president from day one,” he said, adding, “You’re going to see the supply chain, both the medial supply chain but also the deeper manufacturing supply chain that’s going to start coming back here. And this is the key point: It’s not talk, it’s action, action, action. And I think that’s why the American people are gonna sit there and go, ‘Hey, this guy knows what he’s talking about, he’s putting his shoulder to the wheel, he’s bringing American jobs back for American workers.'”
