President Trump pledged on Friday to be America’s “cheerleader,” and told government and business leaders at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland that he hopes to encourage new investments in the U.S. by promoting the American economy.
“I think I’ve been a cheerleader for our country,” Trump said during a question and answer session after delivering a speech to the gathering.
“The reason I’m a cheerleader is because it’s easy, because I love our country,” Trump added.
The president touted the amount of new investment companies have made in the U.S. since his election. He spent much of his speech highlighting the records that stock market highs have broken and the healthy employment numbers that have been reported in the past year.
“A lot of money, billions and billions of dollars, is coming back to the U.S. and people are very happy with what we’ve done,” Trump said.
Trump repeated to world leaders during his speech Friday that he would always put America first, and encouraged other leaders to place the interests of their own countries first as well.
