Marco Rubio fires back at Chris Cuomo after the host mocks his faith

Sen. Marco Rubio fired back at CNN host Chris Cuomo after he mocked Rubio’s faith, referring to him as “Mr. Bible Boy” and joking that “he’s got a Bible quote for every moment. He just never speaks truth to power or acts on any of it.”

“The verses I tweet are usually the ones chosen by the Catholic Church for that days mass,” Rubio fired back on Twitter. “But the fact he thinks words written thousands of years ago are relevant to current events proves the Bible isn’t just a book, it’s the word of God.”

Cuomo’s remarks came during his handoff with fellow host Don Lemon, who was mocking President Trump’s phone call with Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, praising Raffensperger as a “man of faith.”

“I learned about it tonight as I was watching CNN. That he is a man of faith, and he’s relying on his faith. And that’s why he could sit there and, just, very stoically say, ‘I’m sorry, Mr. President, you’re wrong,’” Lemon said.

Lemon said he “couldn’t stop listening to the entire tape,” which featured Trump chastising Raffensperger for not more aggressively investigating allegations of voting irregularities and fraud.

“It’s one of the rare examples where the clips don’t do it justice because, you see, in that entire hour, he is just going from desperation to desperation,” Cuomo responded. “He never offers one legitimate piece of proof for this secretary of state to act on.”

Lemon said the recording was the “craziest thing” he’s ever heard, before taking aim at lawmakers who continue to support Trump’s claims of voter fraud.

“I think you nail what we have to focus on also,” Cuomo responded. “Look, Trump, I believe, will be remembered as the worst. We’ve never seen anybody abuse the office the way he has — not in our lifetime. But the people, those who remain, the Kevin McCarthys, the people in the House, the people in the Senate.”

“The man he called Lyin’ Ted, the man he called Little Marco,” Cuomo continued, referring to Sens. Ted Cruz and Rubio.

“Mr. Bible Boy. You know, he’s got a Bible quote for every moment. He just never speaks truth to power or acts on any of it in the interest of his own state or of this country,” Cuomo said of Rubio.

A group of 13 GOP Senators has joined the effort led by Cruz and Sen. Josh Hawley to object to certifying the Electoral College results Wednesday, setting the stage for the chamber to force debate on whether or not to certify the results.

Rubio is in a group with 12 other Republican Senators who have not said whether they support the effort or will vote for certification. Meanwhile, 25 GOP Senators have indicated they plan to support certifying the election results.
