A judge in Kentucky is ordering people who refuse to stay at home after coming in contact with coronavirus patients to wear ankle monitors.
The severe measures are being taken in Jefferson County, which is home to Louisville, according to CNN affiliate WDRB.
In one instance, a person identified as D.L., a resident of Louisville, was living with “someone who has tested positive for the illness and another person who is a presumptive case,” according to an affidavit. D.L. was ordered to isolate but “leaves the house often,” family members said.
Jefferson Circuit Court Judge Angela Bisig ordered the Department of Corrections to fit D.L. with an ankle monitor.
There are at least three other cases of people in Louisville breaking self-isolation orders in the area who were subsequently fit for ankle monitors.
States have cracked down on self-isolation recently, including in New York, where Gov. Andrew Cuomo called on the New York Police Department to be “more aggressive” and in Pennsylvania, where a woman was pulled over and fined for taking a leisurely drive alone.
