California man is the seventh to die from lung disease linked to vaping

A 40-year-old man in Tulare County, California, died over the weekend due to a lung disease experts believe is related to vaping.

The California man is the seventh person since August to die of what the Tulare County health department is calling vape-associated lung injury, and the second to die in California, according to CNN. People have also died from vaping-related pulmonary disease in Kansas, Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, and Oregon.

The Tulare County public health office confirmed the patient’s death Monday, saying he has “died from complications related to the use of e-cigarettes.” The county health department has not released further details about the patient or his medical history.

The Centers for Disease Control have identified 380 cases of lung disease associated with vaping. Health officials on state and federal levels are investigating the cases, which share the same symptoms — shortness of breath, vomiting, difficulty breathing, and chest pain.
